If in fact it was coconut coir fiber (from the husk of the coconut) the fiber came from the Malabar Coast area of southwestern India, known as Kerala, India. If the fibers are determined to be date palm coir fiber, they could most likely be from the Judean Date Palm Tree which only grew in a few sections of the Levant: Jerricho, Jordan River Valley, and the Dead Sea (Israeli side). Since the fiber radiocarbon dated to 1229-1330 AD with 95% certainty (Crusade Period), if date palm fiber, then most likely brought by the Knights Templar or an affiliate group. If from India, it may also be brought by the Knights Templar or an affiliated group, but much harder to see a purpose and reason.
